What is penetration testing?

Penetration testing involves approved, qualified attacks against a computer, network or website, in order to discover security weaknesses.

Before pen testing work begins, a detailed plan of action should be developed, to ensure that the penetration tester will be assessing the correct areas of the computer system, and to ensure that the client is fully aware of any areas of their business which may become visible to the penetration tester.
